Choreographer, dance teacher, cultural manager
Kosmas Kosmopoulos is working as a performer, dance teacher (Release technique), choreographer, video artist and cultural manager. He studied from 1989 till 1995 theatrical sciences and history of the arts at the Freie Universität in Berlin. He continued his studies from 1995 till 1998 at the Performing Arts Research and Training Studios (P.A.R.T.S.) in Brussels under the artistic direction of Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker. (Studies made possible through a grant from the European Union / Kaleidoscope Program.) During his studies he joined video workshops given by Thierry De Mey and he performed repertoire work of choreographers like Trisha Brown, William Forsyth, Wim Vandekeybus, Pina Bausch and Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker. He worked with Robert Wilson, Felix Ruckert, David Hernandez, Jan Ritsema, Tom Plischke, Randy Warshaw and Gisela Rocha.
In 1999 he received a grant by the cultural ministry of arts in Berlin for his dance video work. His video films were invited and presented in different festivals world wide. He was artistic director and co-founder of the company ALKYONIS (1998 - 2002, together with Anabel Schellekens) in Brussels, where he produced several of his own works (dance and theatre productions, video installations, digital prints) which were successfully presented in Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, The Netherlands, France and Portugal.
Between spring 2000 and 2001 Kosmas Kosmopoulos was invited as a guest professor at the KHL, the art high school in Genk (B). There, he led different student projects of the department of product design, graphic and media. Since 2001 he is teaching training classes for children, beginners, students and professional dancers in Athens and in Berlin in several professional dance schools, elementary schools and leisure centers.
Besides that Kosmas Kosmopoulos is since 2002 the artistic co-director of LUNA PARK in Athens (non-profit organisation). Works of LUNA PARK have been presented in Greece (Athens, Chania, Thessaloniki), Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, Slovenia, Russia, South Korea, Belgium, Portugal, Japan, South Africa and F.Y.R.O.M. Kosmas Kosmopoulos holds a Master in Cultural Management (MAS) from the University Basel in Switzerland.
