What usually does a person long for? For a better world!

In “Mountains of Desire” five dancers are on stage for almost one hour sharing their personal stories with each other as well as with the audience. They tell stories about their escapes, moments of upheaval and their big and small longings. They go in search of the mountains of desire. Their memories, diaries, a choreographer, a composer and dramaturge are supporting and guiding this journey. A polar bear has an equally important role sharing its own individual story.

This piece is about the yearning for a better world and all the consequences that it might have, such as the displacement, the difficulties during the journey and finally the arrival that no one can guarantee convenience. The process of readjustment in new conditions, envelopes new challenges. For example immigration, which is a regional and international issue. An important and particular element of this piece is the fact that it is not developed and rehearsed separately from its direct environment, but in close and constant exchange with an “art-remote” neighborhood in Berlin-Wedding, often with a migration background, which is characterized above average by poverty, isolation and general hopelessness.

The work on “Mountains of Desire” began in 2017 during an international meeting of young dancers from Berlin and Athens, organized by LUNA PARK in cooperation with the Gesundbrunnen Primary School in Wedding , under the supervision and guidance of the greek-born choreographer Kosmas Kosmopoulos who lives and works in Berlin and Athens.

The initiative LUNA PARK was founded in 2002 in Athens by the choreographer Kosmas Kosmopoulos together with the visual artist Gm Touliatou and the composer Antonios Palaskas. It still has its headquarters there and since 2003 has been supported by the association "Weinmeisterhaus e.V." in Berlin. The aim of LUNA PARK is to support, advance and communicate art projects and activities across Europe. It refers to groups of performing and visual artists coming from different national and cultural backgrounds, thus, a certain number of its pursuits are designed for and realized in association with social and educational institutions. Works of LUNA PARK have been presented in Berlin and Athens but also in Switzerland, Turkey, Slovenia, Russia, South Korea, Belgium, Portugal, Japan, South Africa and F.Y.R.O.M.
