Workshops & Curatorial Projects

Sometimes the blocks of texts do mean what they typically do: indicate meanings, declare identities. Photographs, in this case, confound the objectivity of science, the integrity of the structures. Vulnerable to every day’s precipitation, they trespass boundaries of our habitual perception and like they have a world of their own, may even embody our thoughts.

Video on the other hand, confounds the subjectivity of both spatial and temporal manipulation. Τhere is always a photographic referent, but this referent shifts, it does not make a claim in favour of its reality, it does not protests its former existence; it does not cling to any existence.

Nonetheless, they both then become really interesting mediums, for they both presents us with a new form of realising the world surround us: true on the level of perception, false on the level of time, and not the other way round. The span or the duration of their narrative is of the little consequence; for the narrative is not, here, the attitude of the target or even a technique of the operator, but the term of an ‘intention’ of reading. However, on the introduction of the mechanism of the obsessive, I think, that could be a good foreword for the moment.

Concept

Under the auspices of LunaPark, Georgia Touliatou organises workshops and curatorial projects in which students in the field of Visual Arts and young artists have gained valuable artistic experience. The main thought that supports an effort in such a labour, deals with the need to uphold an understanding, a contemplation and appreciation of the Contemporary Art, from 1970 to present. To this end, each workshop Georgia Touliatou leads is structured in a platform that includes a variety of programs, in which I provide professional training to students who are interested in pursuing a videotic and/or a photographic art-work. The young artists participate in the ongoing workshop, complete a project or a portion of a larger project, and attend a weekly seminar that introduces international artists working in the field, their ideas, works and projects. Additionally, they attend a weekly subject specific lecture. During their time in the workshops both students and young artists gain a substantial working knowledge of the role and functions of the Contemporary Art. After an invitation form National and International Festivals, each member of the workshop is also assigned to work on the upcoming curatorial project.
